Some of the main Courses
The National Defence Academy (NDA) admits students to the Army, Navy and Air Force wings through an entrance examination held twice a year, generally in the months of April and September. This examination is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission.
Age and marital status: A candidate must be an unmarried male, at least 161/2 years old but below the age of 19 as of January 1, or July 1, of the year succeeding the examination year.
Educational Qualifications: (1) For Army Wing of National Defence Academy: Must have successfully completed Class XII in the 10 + 2 pattern of school education or equivalent examination conducted by a State education board or a university. (2) For Air Force and Naval Wings of National Defence Academy and for the 10 + 2 (Executive Branch) Course at the Naval Academy: Must have passed Class 12 of the 10 + 2 pattern of school education or equivalent with Physics and Mathematics conducted by a State education board or a university. Candidates currently in Class XII in the 10 + 2 pattern of school education, or equivalent examination, can also apply.
Plan of the Examination: The examination comprises (i) a written examination and (ii) intelligence, obstacles and group tests of the candidates who qualify in the written examination.
(a) Nationality : A candidate must either be a Citizen of India, or a subject of Bhutan, or a subject of Nepal, or a Tibetan refugee who came over to India before the 1st January, 1962 with the intention of permanently setting in India, or a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka and East African Countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire and Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India. Provided that a candidate belonging to categories (ii), (iii), (iv) and (v) above shall be a person in whose favour a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India. Certificate in whose case a certificate of eligibility is necessary, may be admitted to the examination provisionally subject to the necessary certificate being given to him by the Govt. before declaration of result by UPSC.
(b) Age Limits, Sex and Marital Status : Unmarried / upto 24years.
(c) Educational Qualifications: (i) For I.M.A. and Officers Training Academy- Degree of a recognized University or equivalent.(ii) For Naval Academy - B.Sc. (with Physics and Mathematics) or Bachelor of Engineering. (iii) For Air Force Academy- Degree of a recognized University (with Physics and Mathematics at 10 +2 level) or Bachelor of Engineering. Graduates with first choice as Army/Navy/Air Force are to submit proof of graduation provisional certificates on the date of commencement of the SSB Interview at the SSB.
Candidates who are studying in the final year Degree course and have yet to pass the final year degree examination can also apply but they will be required to submit proof of passing the degree examination.
(d) Physical Standards : Candidates must be physically fit according to physicals standards for admission to Combined Defence Services Examination as per guidelines.
